“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” – Matthew 25:40
Pastor Tom Lathen
Tom is an ordained Deacon in the Global Methodist Church, and is expected to be ordained as an Elder early in 2027.
He has served New Life Methodist Church since early 2023 and was previously the pastor at a small UMC Church in Temple, TX. He is guided by love of God and his son, Jesus Christ. Remembering John Wesley’s famous admonition, “do all the good you can, in all the ways you can,”
Tom believes in serving the community of Salado with the word of God, with service and with outreach to those in need.
Tom returned to church after many years away because of a personal tragedy in his family life. Because of that he knows (from experience) going to a new church or coming into church for the first time is scary. So, If you are looking for a church home we think New Life Methodist offers something a little different; relaxed, informal, friendly, and one big family atmosphere.
In the spring of 2026 the church opened up a sanctuary on church property after living almost four years as renters at various locations. The new sanctuary allows you to sit as close or as far away as your comfort level allows.
Pick up a bulletin, a cup of coffee and a cookie and you’re ready to go. Expect to be greeted by lots of folks, but you won’t be asked to do anything you are uncomfortable with.
We’re guided by the Holy Spirit in all personal and corporate church decisions, and the exact plan and timetable for our new build church sanctuary has not yet been decided. So for now, come and enjoy our remodeled high school “portable”. If you subscribe to our youtube channel you will get a notice when a live event is starting. You can also listen to past services to further “check us out.”
At our church, you’ll find your friends and neighbors. You’ll also experience church in a relaxed, welcoming, helpful attitude in the hearts of everyone you meet. While we worship at 10 AM, if you want to study the Bible with other searchers please come at 9:00 AM for adult education; the coffee is on and there’s usually home-made snacks too!
While the church is excited about the future construction plans, we also know that a building doesn’t make a church – people do! People seeking to grow in faith and share the love of Jesus Christ.
